Privacy Policy

Effective September 19, 2026 Applies to the Windguru+ Android app

This policy explains what information the Windguru+ app reads, stores, and sends when you use it — in plain terms, matched to what the app's code actually does.

01

Who we are

Windguru+ is an Android app published by StudioEleven that displays wind, wave, and weather forecasts, and lets you sign in with your own Windguru account (windguru.cz) to sync favorites and preferences. This policy covers the Windguru+ app only. Data you send to windguru.cz once you're signed in is additionally governed by Windguru's own privacy policy on their site.

02

Permissions the app asks for

These are the permissions Windguru+ declares deliberately. None of them is a privacy-sensitive "runtime" permission — there is no permission prompt to accept or refuse anywhere in the app.

PermissionWhat it's for
INTERNET Fetching forecasts, spot data, and map tiles
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE Detecting that you're offline, so the app shows cached data instead of failing
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED Re-arming the home-screen widgets' background refresh after a reboot
car.app MAP_TEMPLATES / ACCESS_SURFACE Drawing the meteogram on the Android Auto screen

Alongside these, the standard Android libraries the app is built on add a few non-sensitive permissions of their own: Google Play Billing adds com.android.vending.BILLING for the optional subscription, and the background-work and map libraries add WAKE_LOCK, ACCESS_WIFI_STATE and FOREGROUND_SERVICE so a widget refresh can finish once it has started. None of them reads personal data, and they appear in the full list shown on the app's Google Play listing.

No location access. Windguru+ does not request, read, or use your device's location — the app declares no location permission at all, so it cannot ask for your position and Android would refuse it. Spot maps are centered on the spot's own published coordinates, never on you.

The app also has no access to your contacts, photos, files, camera, microphone, calendar, or the list of other apps installed on your device.

03

Information we collect

Windguru account credentials

If you choose to sign in, the app stores your Windguru username and password on your device, encrypted using Android's hardware-backed Keystore (via EncryptedSharedPreferences, AES-256) — never as plain text. Signing in is optional; the app works fully signed out, keeping your favorites on the device only.

Subscription status

The optional "unlimited favorites" subscription is purchased and processed entirely by Google Play Billing. The app itself never sees or stores your payment details, card, or billing address — all it keeps is a single true/false flag recording that Google Play reported an active subscription.

Preferences and cached data (device-only)

Theme and accent color, language, unit choices, hidden weather models, widget settings, and cached forecast and spot data are stored locally on your device and are never transmitted anywhere by the app. Clearing the app's storage or uninstalling it removes all of it.

What we don't collect

There is no account of our own, no server of ours that the app talks to, no user ID or advertising ID, no crash or analytics reporting, and no usage tracking. StudioEleven receives no data from the app whatsoever.

04

How we use it

We do not build an advertising profile, run analytics on your usage, or use your data for anything beyond making the app work as described above.

05

How it's shared

The app talks to a small, fixed set of services — all listed below. There is no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, and no data broker anywhere in the app.

ServiceWhat it receivesWhy
windguru.cz Your username & password (over HTTPS), and the spot IDs you view or favorite Sign-in, forecasts, and syncing your account data
Google Play Billing The purchase transaction, handled end-to-end by Google Processing the optional subscription
Esri map tiles (server.arcgisonline.com) Map viewport coordinates only — never account data Rendering the satellite map view
OpenStreetMap tiles (tile.openstreetmap.org) Map viewport coordinates only — never account data Rendering the standard map view
OpenSeaMap tiles (tiles.openseamap.org) Map viewport coordinates only — never account data Drawing the nautical marks layer over the map

As with any web request, the three map tile servers above also see your device's IP address, which is how the internet delivers their reply. They receive nothing else: no account, no identifier of yours, and no record of which spot you were looking at.

Windguru's API requires credentials on the request itself (it decides there which forecast models and resolution your account may see), so when you're signed in they are attached to windguru.cz requests, always over an encrypted HTTPS connection. Signed out, no credentials are sent at all.

Two places open a link in your browser, which is an ordinary web visit outside the app: "Help" in the app's top-bar menu opens this site's help pages, and "Register" on the sign-in sheet opens windguru.cz. Tapping "Directions" on a spot opens your maps app with that spot's coordinates as the destination — the app does not supply your own position.

06

Widgets & Android Auto

The home-screen widgets refresh about every half hour in the background, including while the app is closed, and again shortly after your connection comes back from being offline. Each refresh is the same forecast request the app itself makes to windguru.cz — no additional data is collected or sent, and nothing is reported to StudioEleven.

The Android Auto screens display the favorites and forecasts already on your device. The app does not read your vehicle's location, speed, or any other car data.

07

Security & device backups

Your Windguru password is encrypted at rest on your device using Android's Keystore-backed encryption, and every network request to windguru.cz travels over HTTPS. No plain-text copy of your password is ever written to disk, and network request contents are never logged in the released app.

Windguru+ participates in Android's standard app backup, so your device's own backup — to your Google account, or to a new phone during a device-to-device transfer — may include the app's local data: your preferences, widget settings and cached forecasts. Your stored Windguru password is deliberately excluded from both, so it never leaves the device it was saved on; after restoring onto a new phone you simply sign in again. The backup itself is handled and protected by Android and your Google account, not by us, and we have no access to it. You can turn app backup off in your device's system settings.

08

Retention & deletion

Signing out of the app immediately deletes your stored credentials and every locally cached account record, favorite, custom spot, and forecast from your device. Uninstalling the app removes everything it stored.

Signing out clears everything Windguru+ stores on your device. Because your Windguru account itself lives on windguru.cz, deleting the account and its data on Windguru's servers has to be done directly on windguru.cz — the app doesn't have an in-app "delete my account" action.

If you'd like help finding the right place to do that, or have any other data question, write to us — see Contact us below.

09

Your choices

10

Children's privacy

Windguru+ is a weather and surf-forecasting tool built for a general audience and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

11

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the effective date above. Since the app has no account of its own to email, we'd encourage checking back here occasionally if you have concerns.
