Windguru Account & Subscriptions
Understanding the difference between your windguru.cz website account (Free vs. PRO) and the Windguru+ app subscription (Google Play). What each includes, what works without them, and how they complement each other.
1 Two Separate Systems, Never Mix Them Up
One of the most common points of confusion for users is that two completely distinct subscriptions exist in the Windguru ecosystem. They are billed by different entities, managed on different platforms, and govern different features:
Your user profile created on the windguru.cz website. Available as Free or PRO.
- Controls server-side forecast data and numerical model access.
- PRO unlocks 79+ real-time high-resolution models with zero delay.
- Ad-free browsing on the official website.
- One-time payment directly to Windguru (Card, PayPal, Apple/Google Pay, SEPA, Bitcoin).
An in-app purchase specific to the Windguru+ native Android app.
- Unlocks Unlimited Favorites (free tier is capped at 1 spot).
- Unlocks the Custom Spots tab (read and follow your custom spots created on windguru.cz).
- Unlocks Android Auto (forecasts directly on your vehicle's dashboard).
- Billed monthly or annually through your Google Play Store account.
Being PRO on windguru.cz does not unlock unlimited favorites in the Windguru+ app, and subscribing to Unlimited Favorites in Windguru+ does not make your website account PRO on windguru.cz. They are independent systems running on separate payment gateways.
2 The Windguru.cz Website Account
In Windguru+, you can connect your existing windguru.cz account by navigating to Preferences → Windguru account.
You do not need an account to use the app—Windguru+ works right out of the box anonymously. However, logging in connects your account tier:
- Anonymous / Free Account: You receive standard open forecast data. Global models (such as GFS 13 km and GDPS 15 km) and basic regional models update normally. However, runs for high-resolution WRF models are delayed by 12 hours.
- PRO Account: Windguru+ detects your PRO status immediately and displays a gold PRO badge in the top bar. All model delays are removed, and dozens of additional fine-mesh models become active.
3 Windguru PRO Subscription Advantages
Windguru PRO is the premium subscription offered directly by windguru.cz. For water sports enthusiasts, kiters, windsurfers, sailors, and paragliders, it offers significant meteorological advantages:
Free users have full real-time access to only 9 models. Windguru PRO unlocks over 79 forecast models. Most importantly:
- No 12-Hour Delay on WRF Runs: Free users receive WRF forecasts that are 12 hours behind. Windguru PRO delivers the latest WRF runs as soon as the calculations finish on the cluster.
- High-Resolution Micro-Grids: Access to ultra-fine models including AROME 1.3 km (France), ICON-CH 1 km (Switzerland), MET Nordic 1 km (Scandinavia), and Windguru's custom WRF* 1 km spot models (Tarifa, Canary Islands, South Portugal, Cape Town, Greek Cyclades, Hawaii, Croatia).
- Direct Impact on Windguru+'s Blended Forecast: Because the app's Blended Forecast synthesizes all fetched models, having PRO feeds the blend with the finest high-resolution meshes available, significantly improving overall forecast accuracy!
When visiting windguru.cz on your computer or mobile browser, all advertising banners and popups are completely removed.
Unlocks full historical model forecast archives, hourly wind statistics, tide calculations for custom spots, and automated email/push wind alerts.
Windguru PRO Subscription Details
Windguru PRO subscriptions are purchased and managed directly on the windguru.cz website. All PRO packages on the site are strictly one-time, non-recurring payments (no unexpected automatic renewals)—you choose the duration and renew manually whenever you need it.

Do you own a physical automatic weather station? If you connect your live station to the Windguru Live Station Network (stations.windguru.cz) and provide public real-time wind data, Windguru grants your account free PRO access for as long as your station operates!
4 The Windguru+ App Subscription
The Windguru+ app subscription is an optional in-app purchase processed through the Google Play Store. It directly funds the ongoing development, maintenance, and Android Auto integration of the modern native app.
What Works on the Free Tier (Without Subscription)
Windguru+ is fully functional for everyday spot checking without paying a cent. Free users enjoy:
- All Forecast Views: Full access to Timeline (hourly list), Meteogram (day hill charts), Map (vector arrows & wave overlay), and the Classic Windguru table.

What the Windguru+ Subscription Unlocks ("With Subscription")
Subscribing to Unlimited Favorites & Custom Spots in Windguru+ removes all app limits:
Track as many spots as you need without restrictions. Reorder spot cards using the interactive drag-and-drop Edit mode, and organize your favorite sessions effortlessly.
Unlocks the dedicated Custom spots tab in Windguru+, allowing you to access, read, and monitor all the personal custom spots configured under your Windguru account.
Note on custom spots: Right now, the Windguru+ app allows you to read and follow your custom spots, but creating or modifying new custom spots (specifying exact GPS coordinates, elevation, and timezone) is done directly on the windguru.cz website. Once saved in your account, Windguru+ automatically syncs them to your mobile app and Android Auto dashboard.
Plug your phone into your vehicle's USB port or wireless Android Auto adapter to access your forecasts on the car display:
- Favorites Overview: Glance at your spots while driving with radial wind indicators and color-coded speeds.
- 10-Second Rotating Loop: Each spot row automatically rotates every 10 seconds between Right Now, +1h, +2h, +3h, and +4h forecasts.

The Windguru+ subscription costs about the price of a single coffee per year. It is billed directly through Google Play (Annual or Monthly), can be cancelled anytime with a single tap in Google Play Subscriptions, and automatically restores across all Android devices linked to your Google account.

6 Managing & Restoring Subscriptions
Managing Your Windguru+ App Subscription
Because the app subscription is billed by Google Play, Google manages payments, payment methods, and renewals:
- Open the Google Play Store app on your Android device.
- Tap your profile icon in the top-right corner.
- Select Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions.
- Tap Windguru+ to view renewal dates, update payment methods, or cancel anytime.
Switching Phones or Reinstalling: Your subscription is linked to your Google Account. When installing Windguru+ on a new phone, it detects your subscription automatically. If your status does not update immediately, open the paywall card on the Favorites screen and tap Restore purchase.
Managing Your Windguru.cz Website Subscription
Windguru PRO is managed entirely on the website:
- Visit windguru.cz in any browser and log in.
- Go to Settings → Windguru PRO.
- Check your remaining PRO validity days or purchase a renewal voucher. Since PRO subscriptions are one-time payments, they will never charge your card unexpectedly.
